Portrait of Mathias Chelebourg

Mathias Chelebourg

Founder, editorial direction — Atelier Daruma

Mathias Chelebourg (b. 1992) is an Emmy Award-winning French writer, director and producer, notably recognized for his pioneering work in innovative storytelling. His collaboration with the House of Chanel on Rencontre(s) was acclaimed at the 79th Venice Biennale with an immersive installation led by Marion Cotillard.

His exhibition Views of a Room, made with (La)Horde and composer Rone, questioned the position of artists in the age of digital doubles.

Previously, Mathias joined forces with Eric Darnell to co-write and co-direct Baba Yaga, with Kate Winslet, Glenn Close, Daisy Ridley and Jennifer Hudson. The adaptation won three Emmy Awards including Outstanding Director, and received United Nations backing for its ecological reinterpretation of the European tale.

A year earlier, Mathias brought the BBC into virtual reality by writing and directing the first interactive episode of Doctor Who, The Runaway, with Jodie Whittaker. His documentary The Real Thing VR, co-directed with Benoît Felici for ARTE, received numerous international awards.

His installations Alice, The VR Play and Jack: Part 1, with Lupita Nyong'o, presented at the Tribeca Festival, are recognized for their innovative fusion of immersive theatre, video game and animation cinema. Mathias now leads a Paris-based studio exploring the potential of AI and emerging technologies for art and design.

↘ Writing

Portrait of Christian Chelebourg

Christian Chelebourg

Writing — ↗ immersive.paris ®

Christian Chelebourg, born in Châtillon-sur-Seine, is a professor of French literature and a specialist in the 19th century. After a 1994 PhD on Jules Verne's Extraordinary Voyages, he chaired the literature department at the Université de Lorraine until 2021.

His research explores the poetics of the subject and the poetics of the object, focusing on the imaginary that structures literary creation — particularly in the literatures of the unreal and in fictions for younger audiences.

Among his major publications: L'Imaginaire littéraire (2000), Le Surnaturel (2006) and Les Fictions de jeunesse (2013), which position him as a major theorist of narrative unreality and immersive fictional worlds — the raw material of his readings of contemporary creation.

↘ Editorial note — on ↘ the daily

This daily feed is produced through a hybrid editorial workflow: sources are scanned and pre-sorted automatically, each daily is written by Anthropic's Claude Opus, then reviewed by the editorial direction before publication. Every article carries a generated_by tag indicating whether it was published in co-writing mode, autopilot mode, or entirely by hand.

Images used are real photographs sourced from the cited outlets — never AI-generated. Credits are indicated beneath every visual.
